HOW LONG DO RECORDINGS TAKE TO TRANSCRIBE:

 

 

Let us assume you have a dictated recording of 1 hour duration and you would like a transcriber to transcribe the recording into a professionaly finished document, you would assume that your 1 hour of dictated recording would take approximately 1 hour to transcribe.

 

Not so, because we generally speak four times faster than we can type and seven times faster than we can write. The recognised industry standard for transcriptionists is for every 15 minutes of clearly recorded dictation it will take approximately 1 hour to transcribe. Your 1 hour dictated recording will, therefore, take 4 hours or more to transcribe.

 

The industry standard is dependant on a number of very important factors:

 

 

ˇ         Quality of the recording

ˇ         Type of recording - digital or analogue

ˇ         Type of microphone

ˇ         Type of transcript you require

ˇ         How many speakers are contained within the recording

ˇ         Clarity of each of the speakers

ˇ         Background noise

ˇ         Dialects of the speakers

ˇ         Industry terminology spoken about
